New Toronto Eaton’s Centre public display — “Slipstream” costs $2.5 million. Unveiled on October 1, 2011 as a part of Nuit Blanche celebration.

The 135m long LED light installation of 70 prisms is now joined the landmark Michael Snow Canada Geese.

Each prism is rotated by one degree to create a single gesture of motion. The animation of Slipstream changes in response to the movement of the sun throughout the day and local meteorological factors, such as wind speed. At night, as light animates from within, a momentum is created as impulses of light shift and stream throughout.

This years’ Nuit Blanche Nathan Phillips Square was brighter but much more quite than last year. Bright lasers in almost dead quite — where’s your loud music, Toronto? Where’s pulping clocks on Old City Hall I admired so much in 2010? Where’s illuminated New City Hall installations? I don’t like this years stuff.
Well yeah, the cold and weeds smoke were still there. Fine.
Only few things were more or less inspiring for me: http://www.bielousov.com/2010/nuit-blanche/

Nuit Blanche

Toronto Nuit Blanche
