Canada’s flawed bill: Our $20 bill depicts a non-native maple species. What else is wrong with it?
When it unveiled its new paperless, plasticized $20 bills in May 2012, the Bank of Canada touted its high-tech anti-counterfeiting technology. “This new $20 note fits the bill,” they said. Ha ha! Nice pun. Too bad they didn’t mention that little problem with them melting. There have been other complaints too. The Post‘s Steve Murray investigates.

In the lead-up to New Year’s Eve, Canadian astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield grabbed his camera and staked out a spot in the viewing cupola of the International Space Station hoping to glimpse his home country in winter and maybe spot some faint sparkles of New Year’s fireworks emanating from Earth. He only left Earth on Dec. 19, blasting off from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in a Russian-built Soyuz capsule bound for a five-month mission. A veteran of two space shuttle missions, in March Col. It’s the most egregious Christmas crime: telling a child that the man in red isn’t real. This weekend, a 24-year-old Kingston, Ont., man filtered his way through the city’s annual Santa Claus parade, announcing the “truth” about Santa to the festive crowds. “Arrested an intoxicated Grinch for trying to yell at kids that Santa’s not real! Bank of Canada to release new $20 bill
On Wednesday, the Bank of Canada will begin circulating a new $20 bill made of polymer instead of paper.
The new bill pays tribute to the contributions and sacrifices of Canadian men and women in all military conflicts and is being released just before Remembrance Day. The note features a view of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial on its back. (Handout/Bank of Canada/The Canadian Press)
Pacific Sea Nettle at Vancouver Aquarium
A common free-floating scyphozoa that lives in the EastPacific Ocean from Canada to Mexico.
Sea nettles have a distinctive golden-brown bell with a reddish tint. The bell can grow to be larger than one meter (three feet) in diameter in the wild, though most are less than 50 cm across. The long, spiraling, white oral arms and the 24 undulating maroon tentacles may trail behind as far as 3.6 to 4.6m (12 to 15 feet). For humans, its sting is often irritating, but rarely dangerous.
