Col. Chris Hadfield’s stunning view of snow-covered Canada from the Space Station
In the lead-up to New Year’s Eve, Canadian astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield grabbed his camera and staked out a spot in the viewing cupola of the International Space Station hoping to glimpse his home country in winter and maybe spot some faint sparkles of New Year’s fireworks emanating from Earth. He only left Earth on Dec. 19, blasting off from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in a Russian-built Soyuz capsule bound for a five-month mission. A veteran of two space shuttle missions, in March Col. Pacific Sea Nettle at Vancouver Aquarium
A common free-floating scyphozoa that lives in the EastPacific Ocean from Canada to Mexico.
Sea nettles have a distinctive golden-brown bell with a reddish tint. The bell can grow to be larger than one meter (three feet) in diameter in the wild, though most are less than 50 cm across. The long, spiraling, white oral arms and the 24 undulating maroon tentacles may trail behind as far as 3.6 to 4.6m (12 to 15 feet). For humans, its sting is often irritating, but rarely dangerous.

We’ve broght an illegal immigrant from Domincan Republic. He is 20 mln. years old and lives in piece of amber. He was so smal that we didn’t believe first that he’s “alive”. To get known with the guy I had to create a DIY electronic microscope from DSLR camera and 2 lenses.
I reversed 50mm 1.8 lens and put it at the end of long 70—300mm. Just put it there, on a table, without any adapters or anything. A small dot in amber on photo #2 became an evident for immigration services on photo #1. And using Live View mode of Nikon D7000 while making this photo was like a pure fun for kid and family.
The depth of field was incredibly small even at f:1/22, like almost non-existing, so to create this photo I made 3 shots focusing on differrent parts of the fly: body and legs, head, wings and then joined them together with masks in Photoshop.
Here we go, home made electronic microscope. Afterall I’ve order a cheap like nothing coupling ring adapter on ebay — a thing that fixates two lenses reversed. It might go too long from china, but a guy here in Toronto has got one delivered yet after 3 weeks or so. Any way it’s just like $3.

That is how you need to dress up to be able to shoot in Canada in winter.
-15°C feels like -21°C in the afternoon, but actually it feels like - 1,000,000°C and this wear didn’t keep warm either for more than an hour. But made me sweat in a minute inside. Need other options. Suggestions?
